Thankful and Simply in Awe of Nature

I just wanted to put it out there that I am just really thankful for all I’ve experienced lately. I’m particularly thankful I’ve had guiding gigs since I started out as an independent ecoguide (for hire!!). I’ve gained a good handful of ecotours obtained through word of mouth or internet. It’s more than I could have hoped for and I have a lot of folks to thank for that. You know who you are!!

I took a lovely pair of guests on a birds and nature eco-daytour to @tranquilobay where we went on a hike along their rich, lush, rainforest trails. I noticed an odd fluttering fall to the ground ahead of me and here is what I saw when I approached..a pile of leaves! But wait! It didn’t take long before I realized we were lucky enough to have one of the most leaf-like dead-leaf moths I’d ever encountered!

Found in the genus Oxytensis, the camoflage of these moths is incredibly remarkable. I recommend you turn your screen clock or counter clockwise, the stock still critter disappears into the leaf litter even moreso lost in the clutter of leaves it so mimicks.

You can imagine this species of moth is edible as it doesn’t want to be seen and any insectivorous bird or bat would love to chomp on this Lepidopteran if it could pick it out amongst the thin leaf litter of the forest floor. Isn’t nature spectacular?

Thanks for reading!
