A Night Hike at Snowy Cotinga House

This little work of art is the Harlequin Tree Frog (Dendropsophus ebraccatus). This frog (and the red-eyed tree frog) gather in impressive numbers about a perfectly constructed water feature habitat, supporting various species of local frogs (including the Sylvia’s Tree Frog, which is on the endangered species list). Thanks to Miguel Ibarra and Snowy Continga house, this is a phenomenal example of creating a reliable source of water in and around which these frogs can lay their eggs and raise their tadpoles in a year-round maintained moist habitat in spite of times of drought ,which Panama has suffered year after year, thus impacting our amphibians drastically. The Snowy Cotinga House, set in Charagre of the Bocas Del Toro province is providing a vital refuge as well as an outdoor natural wonder of garden and lowland tropical rainforest. The night hike at Snowy Continga is not to be missed, with chances to see kinkajous, armadillos, sleeping anoles and helmeted iguana, perhaps even a coral snake! To walk through the forest at night is an experience in of itself, slowly ambling along the trails, looking for eyes, listening for rustling in the leaves, enjoying the sounds of the night.
