Mangrove Kayak & Coral Reef Snorkeling Ecotour

On my late-afternoon (or full day) kayak and snorkeling ecotour out of Saigon Bay, we explore a beautiful mix of ecosystems on Isla Colón—coral reefs, peaceful canals, and a magical mangrove tunnel that feels like entering another world. While paddling, we often see three-toed sloths, sometimes iguanas, kingfishers, occasionally howler monkeys or white-faced capuchins if we’re lucky, all within the vitally important mangrove forest.

This tour is designed as a relaxed late-afternoon paddle with optional snorkeling, focused on the marine life that depends on mangroves for shelter and food..you’ll soon learn why mangroves are my favorite ecosystem. For bird lovers, we may spot parrots, toucans, herons, egrets, and several species of kingfishers, plus regular sightings of Mangrove Yellow Warbler and, with luck, Mangrove Cuckoo.

Snorkeling (from the kayak) takes place over a thriving reef with colorful corals, sponges, and abundant fish life all of which I’ll identify for. you. Along the way, I share the ecology of mangroves, reefs, and seagrass beds—and how deeply connected these systems are to each other and to human life.

For those wanting a longer day, (~6hrs) we can continue along the mangrove coastline to additional unique reefs and a floating restaurant where we can buy lunch. It’s a lovely spot with snorkeling including red-cushion sea stars and a sunken ship.

And as we find our way back to Saigon Bay as the sun goes down and the evening colors catch the clouds, we can enjoy a gorgeous sunset over the Talamanca mountain range.

Please let me know in advance if you’re comfortable kayaking longer distances (3+ miles). We can always shorten the route—it’s your day. Snorkeling is done directly from the kayak; I’ll stabilize it while you slide in and help you back aboard (think elephant seal energy, zero judgment!).
