Here we have one of the tiger herons, a favorite among birders. While the Rufescent Tiger Heron, like we have here is a very skulky bird, often found by sluggish freshwater creeks. These large waterbirds are usually found solo, as this one I came across by a slow stream.

Of the three tiger heron species in the province, this is the least common of the bunch and truly a gorgeous bird to witness, whether in its juvenile or adult plumage.
These wading birds maintain stalk still as they wait for a wayward fish, crustaceans and other marine invertebrates. They’ve even been recorded to take the occasional snake or baby caiman.
